CONFLUENCE - South Asian Perspectives
Confluence now in its seventh year of publication in London seeks to build links between the diverse ethnic communities in the UK and the world over broadly described as ‘South Asian’ (of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan heritage or descent) by offering a platform for debate, dialogue and discussion and in so doing help them lead shared lives with each other and the mainstreams of their societies.
Confluence seeks to showcase the uniquely ‘South Asian’ in creative writing, the arts, the multi cultural experience and all economic, political and social endeavour in the exploration of South Asian cultural practice within the sub continent and across international borders.
Confluence readership
Typically between the ages of 35 and 65, Confluence readers are a mix of professionals, politicians, academics, civil servants and businessmen and women of distinction and taste with an abiding interest in the South Asian discourse.
Distribution
Confluence, a monthly publication (print run of 5000 copies) captures the readership described above estimated at around 15,000, drawn from regular patrons of the Nehru Centre, Bharatiya Vidya Bawan, the South Bank, Watermans, Barbicans and other leading theatres and cultural centres hosting performances projecting British/South Asian themes and threads in London, Birmingham, Leicester, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham. A DIRECT mailing list complements this network reaching out internationally to Canada, USA, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand – countries of domicile of the thriving South Asian diaspora. The Confluence e magazine now reaches over 2000 readers in the UK alone.However, far from being a mass circulation publication, Confluence targets a select and exclusive readership at the cutting edges of South Asian society.
